Context

Cataract is an opacification of the crystalline lens of slow evolution, leading to a progressive decrease of the vision. It can lead to a strong discomfort in the daily or professional activities. A surgical treatment is then often necessary to give back to the eye its transparency and correct the sight. However, access to eye care is often limited in Indonesia: this disease is not well known and patients are too far away from health centers, which themselves lack financial resources and adequate infrastructures.

Supported Project

In 2021-2022, L'OCCITANE Indonesia and the L'OCCITANE Foundation are supporting the I-SEE project of the NGO CBM Australia, which will enable the most remote and disadvantaged populations to access eye care and especially cataract surgery. This project is defined in three areas: prevention through education, awareness and early detection; treatment through improved resources; and rehabilitation by directing patients to basic eye care.
