Context

In Cambodia, the majority of the population does not have access to safe drinking water or electricity. Poverty affects 35% of the population. This is why 10% of Cambodians have poor health. The public health sector is vast but has few resources. There are nine national central hospitals and 965 health centres where consultations are paid for. In 2016, there were only 38 ophthalmologists for 15 million inhabitants.

Supported project

In 2019, L'OCCITANE Lagorce and the Foundation supported the project of the NGO Pour les yeux du monde in Cambodia. The project aimed to train volunteer medical teams made up of ophthalmologists, nurses, anaesthetists, orthoptists and opticians to carry out the greatest number of consultations, operations and eyeglass prescriptions during the dry season. These missions took place on a clinic boat, which allowed them greater mobility and better access to the most underserved and vulnerable populations.
