Context

The public health system isn't a priority for Hungary's government. As a result, there are various malfunctions, meaning patients aren't properly looked after. With few resources available, the eye health system has the same problem. This means individuals with eye disease can't access high-quality care or treatment. What's more, society in general isn't yet ready to accommodate this type of disability. For example, schools have no provision for blind or visually impaired children.

Supported project

In 2018, the L'OCCITANE Foundation and L'OCCITANE Hungary supported the Hungarian Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted. This project provided for free special world maps to children with sight disability. This atlas was developed by a famous Hungarian influencer and issued by the Hungarian Foundation of the Blind and Partially Sighted.

This project also aimed to raise awareness about eye disease, particularly glaucoma. Ophthalmologist and optometrist clinics were offering screening for a day to those who want it. The Federation was also giving schools world maps to mark World Sight Day that can be read by visually impaired children. The aim was to enable these children to have school equipment adapted to their needs.
