Context

In Germany, the number of poor and homeless people is increasing each year. Homeless people often are not insured and their sense of shame prevents them from going to an optician. Also, medical care does not often include glasses, yet vision is essential if you want to take part in social life.

Supported project

Between 2019 and 2021, L'OCCITANE Germany and the Foundation have supported Mehrblick's project to provide spectacles to homeless and poor people. With its free eyesight testing and spectacles, the NGO offers better chances in life for poor and homeless people.

Mehrblick visits welfare organizations for homeless people in Hamburg, Berlin and soon Hannover as third location. It takes used spectacles, cleans and remeasures them and provides a mobile storage in every city in order to provide spectacles to people who cannot afford them.

History

Project supported since 2017

L'OCCITANE Germany and the Foundation have been supporting Merhblick 's project since 2017 to provide spectacles for homeless and poor people.

Since then, Mehrblick have collected worn glasses, cleaned and measured them. With voluntary opticians, they have visited welfare organizations for homeless people regularly. With all the equipment (about 400 different frames), they make optometry for every person who requires help. After the measurement they find fitting glasses with the best suitable diopter. The visitors directly receive their glasses for free.
