Context

Eye Health is a global health and development issue across various nations, as it is associated with quality of life and survival expectancy among the middle-aged and elderly population. Today, 2.2 billion people worldwide are affected by vision impairment and blindness, which accounts for nearly one-third of the total population. The fact is a vast majority of these people can get treated. Yet primary eye care is out of reach for at least a billion people because of the unfair distribution of resources, equipment, infrastructure, funds, and workforce.

Supported Project

In 2023-2024, L'OCCITANE India is supporting the project "Netra Vasant" led by Sightsavers India. It is one of the largest programs aimed at improving the quality of life of the rural population in Rajasthan, India, across 100 districts lacking adequate access to eye healthcare.

  • The program's primary objectives are to strengthen eye health systems, improve service delivery, promote eye health, generate awareness, develop partnerships, and produce evidence.
  • The program's focus is on the poor and deprived communities of society, aiming to increase the Cataract Surgical Rate in the selected districts to reduce the prevalence of blindness.
  • Key activities include organizing "Outreach Camps" to reach remote areas, prioritizing women's mobilization, and conducting awareness campaigns through various channels, promoting inclusion and informed decision-making.
