Context
In Poland there is a long and rich tradition of apple orchards. Unfortunately, nowadays the market is dominated by foreign, easy to grow varieties, which breach the natural soil balance and local biodiversity. They require also more water use, chemical products and pesticides, having a dramatic impact on environment and human health. However, the eco - awareness of Polish customers is growing and they expect more and more often to buy eco fruits and vegetables and they pay attention how and where they are grown.
Supported Project
In 2021-2022, L'OCCITANE Poland and the L'OCCITANE Foundation have partnered with AgriNatura to support their project aiming at planting 500 trees of old local fruit varieties (mainly apples but also plums and cherries) in cooperation with farmers, in and around farms,
The project's objective is to restore traditional orchards, enhance biodiversity in farms and diversify farmers' revenues. The project involves a team of AgriNatura advisors and managers, who assist, develop and monitor plantations of mainly native’s trees species, in partnership with the participating farmers. AgriNatura provides to the farmers the tree seedlings and technical support for the trees. Farmers take care of soil preparation, mulching, planting, and installation of appropriate protection.
